February Update: Parent and Youth Surveys

Survey season is here.
If you are a parent with children in the Oregon City School District, you may be receiving a Parent Survey in your email box this month.  We hope you’ll take the time to complete it and be automatically entered to win a $50 Chevron gas card.  Your perspective is crucial in helping Oregon City Together develop an accurate picture of our social norms, concerns, and strengths effecting Oregon City’s youth.
Parents may also be asked this month for permission for your student to participate in this year’s Student Wellness Survey.  By participating in this survey, we are engaging with a statewide effort to gather useable information on current needs trends in our community.
We are currently seeking new members from Oregon City’s Healthcare and Business communities.
And please join the coalition in welcoming our newest Coalition member, Samantha Ferguson.  Sammy has stepped up to be our first youth representative.  Great things are in store!
Do you want to share & learn with other parents and mentors about how to talk to your kids about drugs and current trends in youth substance abuse?   If so, there is a place for you with Oregon City Together.  Parents & Allies Networkis currently forming and we are seeking a passionate parent to provide informal facilitation for this support network. The ideal point person will have some experience with the effects of substance abuse on kids and families.  Facilitation consists of bringing topics to the group for discussion and convening regular meetings.  This person should be inspired to share their own thoughts & experiences, and to listen & learn from other parents and allies.  Interested parties should send a letter of introduction to ocitytogether@gmail.com.  Mention any personal experiences with the effects of substance abuse, your relationship to the Oregon City community, and to local parents and other allies to youth.
*Please note: This is not a formal support group or counseling of any kind, but is intended to give parents and allies a place to discuss trends, concerns, and strategies for proactive parenting.
